Return to Must See List
Whilst this is the shortest of our stops it is the first and as such is likely to feel a little more like a holiday while we start to get into the idea of travelling for longer. There are however a number of things we intend to do in New Zealand.
Some of the adrenaline sports that New Zealand is well known for are not necessarily off the cards, but bungee jumping certainly is not happening. Things like the shotover jet, whitewater rafting and zorbing remain possibilities.
We will be hiring a motorhome for the entire stay in New Zealand and plan on covering both the north and south islands in a relatively short time.
The Tongariro crossing is probably our biggest challenge in New Zealand being an eight hour walk. If nothing else the hiking boots will get a really good test quite early on. This is not the only walking we have in mind though, the Franz Josef glacier will provide another challenging day out.
Sea kayaking in Abel Tasman national park appears to be a must do and is certainly on the agenda, as is caving in Waitomo.
We also intend to take the opportunity to see some wildlife, and would particularly like to go whale watching but are a little concerned over how commercialised this activity appears to have become, we will just have to see when we get there.
