Planning a Round the World Trip 2

Once we had made our decisions concerning the route and major activities we thought it would all be 'plane' sailing. Then we got stuck again.

What do you book first? Do you book the flights and just wing it if everything goes wrong? Do you get major visas sorted so you know you can go, although you need a vague idea of when you are going to be there, and you need to know what you are going to be doing there? Do you organise internships so you know exactly where they are going to be so you know where to fly in to, when you need to be there exactly, you can organise some settling in time or travel time?

We bit the bullet and booked our flights. We figured out an ideal time plan, bearing in mind courses and internships that we want to do, and took it to a travel agency. We figured that we could move any date we needed to, and if things didn't exactly go to plan everywhere we could be flexible. This turned out to be interesting as using airline affiliations meant flying to Bali rather than to Singapore was a better option, so we gained a new destination, and a rest between internships that we hadn't considered. Saying that not a lot else changed as we got flights almost on the exact days we wanted.

Using airline affiliations meant it was best to only book our major flights, meaning that our trip after Singapore isn't set in stone at all. We are free to spend as long as we like where we like (bearing in mind visa restrictions) and decide day by day.

Following this we arranged our insurance. With these two things done we figured we were set to go. After all we can get out there, do anything we want knowing we are covered and get home again.

Accommodation, activities and everything else can be organised on the way round - apart from some visas and if we didn't get them we could easily change the route or alter our plans.

The next step was to apply for internships. Both of these are being arranged for us (at the time of writing this we only have to weeks before take-off and they are still being planned).

Time to sit back and relax. And pack.

So we booked our motorhome for our time in New Zealand, bought our essential items and decided to devote our time to getting this weblog up and running with some content.
